Effects of Chemical and Geometric Microstructures on the Crystallization of Surface Droplets during Solvent Exchange

In this work, we investigate crystallization from droplets formed on micro-patterned surfaces. By solvent exchange in a micro-chamber, ternary solution consisting of model compound beta-alanine, water, and isopropanol, was displaced by flow isopropanol. the process, oiling-out crystallized. Our results showed that shape size crystals surfaces could be simply mediated conditions exchange. Varying rate, concentration, or channel height led to formation thin film with micro-holes, connected network crystals, small diamond-shaped crystals. Rough micro-structures surface allowed easy detachment surface. Beyond crystallization, demonstrated crystal another solute dissolved triggered The length fibers after process shorter at faster rate. This study may provide further understanding effectively obtain through approach.
